Candle Making - From Beginner To Expert Book     List of Categories

  • What wax is best for container fillers?

I highly recommend our Container Wax for jar candles as it works best and only requires scent and color. Otherwise, a hardener should be added to all wax that is not pre blended.

If not using a pre blended wax I recommend our 130 mp paraffin with Vybar 260 at 1 level teaspoon per pound of wax.

  • How can I eliminate air bubbles from my wax before pouring it in the mold?

At most pouring temperatures (165 degrees F. and higher)the bubbles should dissipate after sitting for one or two minutes.

  • On your old site, you had instructions for balloon candles. Could I get those again?

    See Jack o Lantern project.

  • Many books claim to teach everything about candle making. What makes yours different?

I specifically wrote this book to explain all the things that most candle making books don't. Teaching classes and handling tech support at Candles & More (now One Stop Candle) has given me quite a bit of insight as the the type of questions most beginners ask, so it was just a matter of making sure those questions were answered in the book.

  • How long did it take to write?

Approximately 2 years. Having a full time career as a candle maker did not allow me to devote as much uninterrupted time to writing as I would have liked.

  • On page 26 the Table Marked English to Metric Conversion Has No Metric - why?

This is a typesetting error that was pointed out to the editor, but apparently was never corrected. This table should actually be titled "Volume Measure Equivalents".

  • Typo on page 24 top table, second line.

To convert inches to centimeters multiply by 2.54 not 25.4

  • On the same table on page 26 it says 1 teaspoon equals 0.17 fl oz and on the second line it says 1 teaspoon equals 0.5 fl oz. Which is correct?

    Line one is correct.
Line two should read 1 Tablespoon = 0.5 fl oz. = 3 tsp (teaspoons).
This is another typesetting error that I pointed out to the editor, but apparently was never corrected.

  • The center photo on page 69 shows a hand holding a silicone mold, but the caption reads "Straighten the wicks, then insert them. Why?

During the typesetting process, the photo that belongs there was accidentally overwritten by the wrong image.
The photo that belongs there looks similar to the bottom photo and shows a hand dropping wicks into the molds.
