Ice Sculpture Hints And Tips

Ice sculpture centerpieces really make impressive party decor. Now making them yourself using our line of ice sculpture molds is within the range of any decorating budget - and fun too. Although a large professionally carved ice sculpture is still more impressive, they are expensive. Yet our molds will let you make as many ice sculptures as needed for very little cost allowing the use of many - even several on each table if desired.

Ice Variants
While there is no denying the beauty of ice sculptures, you are not limited to using plain water. Here are some great ideas for embellishing ice sculptures:

  • Colors - Water may be colored with food coloring to create colored ice.
  • Glitter - Glitter may be added to the water.
  • Embedded Objects - Fruit, silk flowers, toys, etc... may be added (experiment since not all will look good).
  • Distilled water makes clearer ice.

Display
When it comes to displaying these, the only limit is your creativity. It is important to always place them atop something like a deep plate or pan to catch the melting water. The following suggestions may be used alone or together:

  • Floral display - The obvious choice for most centerpieces.
  • Ice Base - An ice base can be made in pie, loaf, or cake pans - remember that water expands when freezing so don't fill them to the top.
  • Ice Base With Embeds - Embedding objects that match your theme looks good in an ice base.
  • Vary Height - The classic 3 height pillar candle style can be adapted to ice sculptures by making ice bases in varying heights.
  • Vary Colors - Sculptures in different colors often create a striking display.
  • Grouping - Grouping 2 or more ice sculptures. Some lend themselves well to back to back placement.
  • Multiples Per Table - Rectangular tables look better with several ice sculptures down the center rather than one elaborate arrangement in the center.
  • Position a votive candle in clear glass holder behind the ice sculptures to illuminate them.

Miscellaneous

  • Make extra ice sculptures in case of accidents or to change them out if needed during long parties.
  • Melted water may be removed from the plate easily with a turkey baster.
  • Make a matching gelatin to serve with dessert.
  • Don't wait until the last minute.
  • Store sculptures in plastic bags (in the freezer of course) until needed.

Ice Sculpture Mold Instructions

  1. Wash Mold - This will remove any dirt picked up during manufacture, transport, or storage.
  2. Position the mold in your freezer and level with the 4 foam corners (included with mold).
  3. Fill the mold approximately 90%. Do not fill to top to allow for expansion.
  4. Freeze for 48 hours.
  5. To demold, place the mold open side down on a flat surface for several minutes until the mold lifts off easily. Note: Do not dip it in water as this will cause cracking.
