I would like to congratulate Amy for winning the recent Next Food Network Star series. Her performance throughout the series was exemplary.
This is sort of a bittersweet thing for me. I was very tossed up about the final three. I doubtless would have watched the winner’s show regardless of who won, but being a picky eater I watch more for entertainment than to actually get recipes.
On a personality level I like Amy, but so far she has not really cooked anything I would be tempted to eat. I am not a big fan of French Cuisine, and that is what she leans towards. I guess time will tell when her own series starts.
Rory does actually make stuff I would eat and being a picky eater that is rare on food network. I found her stage prescence to be a bit unpolished, but in the final analysis that would not have stopped me from watching.
The biggest disappointment to me was JAG resigning. Although I seriously doubt I would be cooking any of his recipes, I feel his show would have been the most entertaining by far. His stage presence was immense and I feel that the network should have just aired the dirty laundry, set the record straight, and moved on. After all, exaggerating on resumes is pretty common and something most folks would not be too offended by.
On a side note as a New Yorker I would also like to thank Food Network for omitting the “big, loud, obnoxious, guy from Brooklyn” that seems to be an obligatory part of most cooking competition shows. I find that trend upsetting as most New Yorkers are not like that, yet they seem to seek out someone from that sterotype for most cooking shows.

Wasn’t that guy who made the huge portions of meatballs and steak filling that role? Wasn’t he from Brooklyn or Long Island?
Actually he was from Massachusetts and although big he wasn’t beligerent as most folks that get picked for that role are. I actually found him to be one of the more likable contestants, although he seemed a bit out of his league when it came to cooking.
