How To Make Sugar Skulls

Step By Step Instructions - Continued From Page 1

9. Place a cardboard square atop the mold to support the sugar when it is flipped. 10. Turn it over and remove the mold.
11. Repeat for the other half of the skull. 12. Set aside to dry for a minimum of 8 hours - longer is better.
13. Mix some royal icing. Apply the icing to one skull half. 14. Press the skull halves together. It is best to allow the icing to harden before continuing, however if you handle it carefully it may be decorated immediately.
15. Cut a rectangle of foil. Apply a thin layer of icing to the foil and place on the forehead area. A departed loved ones name may be written here with icing and a round decorating tube. 16. The following steps are made with colored icing and various decorating tubes.
