Gift Mug With Mocha Spoons
Chocolate Project

By Bob Sherman

This is a fast and easy gift that is fun to make. The rosebuds and hearts shown here are perfect for Mother's day or Valentine's day, however this is the perfect gift for any coffee lover, just change up the mug and mocha spoon mold to suit the occasion.

The mug can be of any quality so if you want a nice thoughtful gift at budget prices, visit your local Dollar store - they usually have a good selection of mugs.

Many of the items you may need can be ordered directly from this page for your convenience.

PLEASE NOTE!! - Although chocolate making is relatively safe for the entire family to participate, adult supervision is required.

Chocolate
I prefer to use chocolate wafers designed for home molding chocolate. My preferred brand is Merckens which works well with all chocolate molding projects, is available in a wide selection of colors, and tastes great.

Melting Chocolate
Either melting method may be used, but I find the double boiler works best for this.

Double Boiler - See Double Boiler Usage Instructions.

A microwave may also be used but care must be taken not to overheat the chocolate.

  1. Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat for 30 seconds.
  3. Remove and stir.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the chocolate is creamy.
  5. Optimum usage temperature is about 90 degrees F. Do not place the thermometer in the microwave!

Chocolate Making Supplies And Materials

The following chocolate making supplies and other materials were used to make this project. Clicking on the item name will bring you to that item's page with a full description and ordering information.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1
The chocolate molds are used without modification, just make sure they are clean and dry.

Step 2
Melt your chocolate and add the flavor oil of your choice. The amount added is largely personal preference, but I use 1/2 teaspoon per pound of chocolate.

Step 3
Fill the mold cavities then rap against the counter to dislodge any trapped air.

Step 4
Dip the spoon end of each handle in melted chocolate.

Step 5
Position the sticks in the mold. Allow to harden.

Step 6
Place in a freezer just long enough to demold easily.

Step 7
Put some spring fill in the mug. This should be packed tight enough to hold the spoons well.

Step 8
The finished gift mug. A plastic bag or cello basket wrap tied with ribbon or a matching twist tie will provide the finishing touch.
