Easter Cookie Embeds
Chocolate Project

By Bob Sherman

Cookie embeds have become very popular in recent years and this project demonstrates making an Easter version with gift box. Of course the box is optional for those who just want to eat them.

Most of the items you may need can be ordered directly from this page for your convenience.

PLEASE NOTE!! - Although chocolate making is relatively safe for the entire family to participate, adult supervision is required.

Chocolate
I prefer to use chocolate wafers designed for home molding chocolate. My preferred brand is Merckens which works well with all chocolate molding projects, is available in a wide selection of colors, and tastes great.

Melting Chocolate
Either melting method may be used, but you need to melt a fairly large amount so I find the double boiler more convenient.

Double Boiler - See Double Boiler Usage Instructions.

A microwave may also be used but care must be taken not to overheat the chocolate.

  1. Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat for 30 seconds.
  3. Remove and stir.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the chocolate is creamy.
  5. Optimum pouring temperature is about 90 degrees F. Note: Pouring chocolate molds hotter than 160 degrees F. will destroy the mold. Do not place the thermometer in the microwave!

Chocolate Making Supplies And Materials

The following chocolate making supplies and other materials were used to make this project. Clicking on the item name will bring you to that item's page with a full description and ordering information.

Item Amount Used
Egg Cookie Embed Mold One.
Bunny Cookie Embed Mold One.
Chocolate Coating Dark, Orchid, Yellow, and Super White chocolate was used here. These can also be made in solid colors.
Paramount Crystals One Package.
Sandwich Cookies One for each.
8 ounce Box One for every 6 cookie embeds.
6 cavity Box Insert One for every 6 cookie embeds.
10 inch Bow Stretch Loop One per Box.
Paintbrush One per painting color.
Squeeze Bottle Optional - may be used in place of a paintbrush.
Thermometer One.
Double Boiler For melting chocolate.

Step By Step Instructions

1. The molds are used without modification. 2. Since the quantities of the paint colors are small I used the microwave method to melt them. A pinch of paramount crystals makes the chocolate creamier and easier to paint.
3. Half the eggs were painted yellow. 4. The other half were painted orchid.
5. The bunnies were painted white. Allow all the painted chocolate to harden before continuing. 6. Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate into each cavity.
7. Press a sandwich cookie into each cavity. 8. Fill the mold, and tap to level the chocolate.
9. Allow the chocolate to harden, then place the mold into a freezer just long enough that it de molds easily. Important - If you leave these in the freezer too long they will crack because the chocolate and the cookie expand and contract at different rates. 10. Place them in a gift box.

11. Add a bow stretch loop and you are done.
