Easter Carousel
Chocolate Making Project

By Bob Sherman

This fun Easter project uses a chocolate carousel and royal icing to create a highly decorative piece suitable for display or use as a centerpiece. It makes a great dessert to bring for Easter Dinner.

Many of the items you may need can be ordered directly from this page for your convenience.

PLEASE NOTE!! - Although chocolate making is relatively safe for the entire family to participate, adult supervision is required.

The Carousel
This project shows how to embellish a carousel. Rather than duplicate the carousel instructions here, please refer to the Chocolate Carousel Project for instructions before you start.

Step By Step Instructions

1. Start with a completed bunny carousel. 2. A disposable bag with a small star tube is used for this. See Bag Usage Basics if you have not done this before.
3. Pink icing was used for this project. Red food color gel was used to obtain pink icing. 4. A turntable makes this much easier. Since I didn't have a cake decorating turntable handy, I borrowed this one from my microwave oven.
5. Start by running a bead of icing around the base. 6. Run a bead of icing around the center knob, followed by a bead down each rib. Run a bead around the edge of the top to hide any rough ends of the icing.
7. Additional detail was added with a star between each rib. This would also look good in another color. 8. A yellow flower leftover from practicing was placed on top while the icing was still wet.
9. The finished carousel.

10. Options:

  • Easter sugars such as those shown above may be adhered in place of the stars in step 7.
  • Use several colors of icing.
  • Use a small round tube to add eye detail.
