Damaged Mold Problem
Troubleshooting Guide

This is a guide for troubleshooting molds that may be damaged. Pick the topic that applies below.

Candle Has A Scratch When Removed From Mold
Wax completely fills the mold, so any mold imperfections will be transferred to the candle.

Prevention - Avoid using metal objects in your molds.

Mold Is Bent
The mold shape is bent or distorted.

Prevention - Obviously handle the molds with care. Mildly bent molds can sometimes be gently put back in shape with hand pressure, but usually not.

Mold Is Rusty
Failure to keep your metal molds dry may result in rust. This most commonly occurs on the edges and near the wick hole, but can sometimes be found elsewhere.

Prevention - We have had moderate success with some rust removing formulas (ask at your local hardware store). Apply them with a paper towel and rub the affected areas to get rid of minor rusting. Rust is one of those problems that is best prevented in the first place. Dry your molds as soon as possible when they get wet. Apply a coat of silicone to help prevent rust after using the mold.

Mold Has A Dent
Severe abuse will sometimes dent a mold. Candles made in mold with a dent are usually impossible to remove from the mold.

Prevention - Take good care of your molds as once they are dented all they can be used for is paperweights.
