Free Jar Candle Air Bubble Problem
Troubleshooting Guide
Air bubbles manifest themselves in container (jar) candles
in several ways.
Large Bubble(s) On Top
Usually seen around the top edge of the jar. Trapped air bubbles out while
cooling. This is caused by making the second pour too late. The first
pour may separate from the jar allowing the second pour to trap air.
Prevention - The second pour should be timed so that the first pour is
firm to the touch, yet still warm. It takes a bit of practice and experience.
Bubbles On Sides
This is a fairly common problem that has a simple solution. This is usually
caused by a pouring temperature that is too low. The wax traps bubbles
against the cooler glass. May also be accompanied by horizontal lines.
Prevention - Increase the pouring temperature. When pouring the wax will
usually cloud on the glass surface. This must go transparent within one
minute or so to prevent trapping air. For room temperature jars 185 degrees
F. is about right. If the jars are exceptionally cool a higher temperature
may be needed.
Wet Spots
This is a very common problem that has no simple solution. Wet spots are
irregular in shape, and caused by the wax pulling away from the glass.
